Mobile Gets Better: Redesigned Controls and Game Over
More than half of Free Flick Football's players are on mobile, so the mobile experience needs to be excellent. We've shipped a series of improvements that make the game feel significantly better on phones.
The game-over screen got a complete redesign for mobile. The old layout crammed too much information into a small space — stats, buttons, ads, and next-game options were all fighting for attention. The new design uses a clean two-column layout with the most important information (score, who won, key stats) prominently displayed, and actions (rematch, new game, share) clearly separated below. Everything is properly internationalized across all 11 languages.
Slingshot controls received a sensitivity boost near board edges. On mobile in landscape, the screen edges leave very little room to pull back the slingshot when the ball is near a wall. The game now dynamically adjusts the drag sensitivity based on how close the ball is to an edge — the closer to the wall, the less drag distance you need for full power. The feel is seamless; you probably won't notice the adjustment, but you'll notice that full-power shots are suddenly possible from positions where they used to feel impossible.
The game now forces landscape orientation on mobile. Instead of showing a 'rotate your device' prompt (which players often ignore), the game automatically renders in landscape mode regardless of how you're holding your phone. On Android, it locks the screen orientation directly. On all devices, a CSS rotation ensures the game always appears landscape.
Touch targets have been reviewed across the entire mobile UI. Buttons are larger, tap areas are more generous, and the spacing between interactive elements has been increased to reduce mis-taps. The formation picker, cosmetics menu, and game controls all benefit from these changes.
These aren't flashy features, but they're the kind of polish that makes the difference between a game you play once and a game you come back to. Mobile players should notice an immediate improvement in how the game feels.
